When Joanna first arrived in the United States 30 years ago, she was prescribing facial oils to help with a myriad of skin conditions. Her clients were skeptical, especially those with oily or acneic skins because to them, oils seemed to be counterintuitive.
But, oil dissolves oil - so incorporating them into your skin routine actually helps regulate sebum production and control breakouts. Oils can also be incredibly moisturizing and filled with important skin nutrients that benefit all types of skin conditions.
Botanical oils are oils obtained from plants that are fatty, dense, and non-volatile. These oils are extracted from the root, stem/bark, leaves, flowers, seeds, or fruits of a particular plant, tree, or shrub, either cold pressed or extracted by heat. Most contain nutritious proteins, as well as minerals and vitamins. Unlike synthetically produced oils, plant-derived oils have finer molecular structures, which allow them to fully absorb into the skin.
With regular use of facial oils, you can expect to see great improvements in your skin’s texture, tone, and overall health.
You can use oils a few different ways - on their own and follow with a moisturizer, to lock in hydration from your moisturizer, or you can mix a few drops into your moisturizer. Gently rubbing the oil between your palms will further activate the ingredients and using a press and release motion application technique will further activate the ingredients.
Just be careful not to overdo it, as oils do dissolve oils. So if you don’t moisturize properly and solely rely on oils, you can actually end up drying out the skin.
