Lingua franca refers to any language used for communication between people who do not share a native language. It is also the name of one of my favorite cashmere sweaters and go-to gift brands.
Created by New York-based entrepreneur, Rachelle Hruska, who was just trying to burn off some anxiety, when she picked up an old cashmere sweater and used the embroidery that her grandmother had taught her as a child to stitch some hip hop lyrics. Lingua Franca was born and it has quickly evolved into a covetable line of sustainably-sourced, fair trade 100% luxury cashmere sweaters and travel sets, all hand-stitched by women in NYC.
I was introduced to the line by one of the most stylish women I know, Taylor Tomasi Hill.
I now happily own 4 of them and want more! The cheeky, empowering messages mixed with sweet nostalgia, are a winning combination. The crew neck is the style I prefer as it reminds me of the coziest, special sweatshirt that I can wear to work, at home or on the plane (where I spend a significant amount of my time). They also make really good gifts, and I have been giving the sweaters and travel sets to the men, women, and children in my life for the past 4 years. My most recent Lingua Franca sweater (and possibly my favorite) was a gift from my friends at Cle de Peau with the customized message CZECHED.
