All About Aloe Vera
Aloe is a cactus-like plant that grows in hot, dry climates. It is cultivated in subtropical regions around the world. Aloe Vera is the gel from the leaves of aloe plants, and it offers some serious skin benefits. Rich in vitamins, amino acids, polysaccharides, and phytosterols it is both calming and moisturizing and can address many skin conditions.
Dehydrated Skin?
Aloe Vera extract is mostly water, and the addition of polysaccharides make it incredibly hydrating and anti-inflammatory. It is also easily absorbed into the skin and prevents trans epidermal water loss (TEWL) which is caused by dehydration. When skin is dehydrated it can become dry and inflamed and the phytosterols in the aloe vera gel sooth the skin.
Sunburned? Have Rosacea or Psoriasis?
Aloe vera contains the natural compound aloin which contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits which reduce inflammation and skin irritation. Aloe Vera creates a strong barrier for the skin which both cools and hydrates.
Acneic Skin?
Salicylic acid, which is an exfoliant and antibacterial agent commonly used to treat acne is one of the active ingredients in Aloe Vera. The ingredient’s soothing properties can help calm inflammation.
Aloe Vera is also generally non-comedogenic, meaning it does not add oil or clog the pores of those with oily skin.Below is a selection of our favorite products that contain this natural and effective powerhouse ingredient.
