Our hands are vital to our everyday lives, and right now, they are taking a beating with extra washing and sanitizing. This can strip them of their natural oils, causing dry, rough, cracked skin. It is important to pamper them as much as we clean them, now more than ever.

Here are some tips for keeping them healthy and hydrated...

Gently exfoliate

While exfoliation is typically a good first step, you need to be very gentle, and really pay attention if you have sensitive or reactive skin. I would recommend using either a washcloth or a very mild face scrub like Reflekt. This super gentle product dissolves when mixed with water, and leaves hands fresh without dehydrating them.

Keep Hands Moisturized

Moisturizing is key, as it helps hydrate and balance the skin as well as minimize the appearance of wrinkles, which can be found on the palms as well as the tops of the hands. Your palms are covered in glabrous skin, which does not have hair or absorb moisture as easily as the rest of your skin.

For hand moisturizer, I look for nourishing, protective ingredients including shea butter, vitamin E, and olive and macadamia nut oils. A good product will also help reverse the effects of sun damage and slow down the signs of aging. I recommend applying your moisturizer when your skin is damp to help absorption. And for extra hydration, wear cotton gloves, at bedtime, over your moisturizer, for an effective overnight treatment.

Apply Sunscreen
You may not realize how much sun exposure your hands get on a daily basis, the sun rays can be quite damaging. The best way to prevent dark spots, freckles, and fine lines on the hands is sunscreen. It should be applied whenever you are going to be spending a good amount of time outdoors, sunny climates or driving.

Use LED Light Therapy At-Home
Red LED light therapy increases collagen and elastin production, improves skin’s texture and tone, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, increases the skin’s natural hydration, and restores skin’s radiance. At least twice per week, I would advise putting your hands underneath a Celluma LED Light Panel.

Finally. make sure that your hands are included in your daily skincare routine, as consistency is key in an effective regimen.
