Environ: A South African Skincare Gem
Sometimes, an impromptu conversation with a stranger can lead to an unexpected discovery. About 20 years ago, I was sitting at Sting and Trudy Styler’s home, waiting to give them customized facial treatments.
I started chatting with their Pilates instructor, a young woman who had traveled with the couple from London.
When the woman learned of that I was an esthetician, she got very excited about sharing a brand she thought was amazing Environ - a South African skincare brand.
“Oh my God! It’s the most amazing thing for my skin!” the trainer raved. “It works miracles on hyper-pigmentation and dark circles!”

About the Company
Founded by Cape Town-based plastic surgeon Dr. Des Fernandes in 1990, the award-winning line features potent skin-revitalizing formulas designed to replace essential skin nutrients depleted by exposure to sun and environmental factors.
The range’s star ingredient is vitamin A, combined with antioxidants and peptides.
And while vitamin A-related retinoids are often associated with redness and irritation, Dr. Fernandes’ innovative “step-up system” allows the user to become accustomed to a low dose of the vitamin, before ramping up to progressively higher potencies. For example, the Youth EssentiA range features Vita-Peptide C-Quence Serum in five consecutive levels.
The products contain extremely active, but gentle, combinations of antioxidants, and most are fragrance- and preservative-free. The vitamin A penetrates and does its job speeding up cellular turnover. Over time, your lines become shallower; your pores become less noticeable, and your skin tone is more even and radiant.
